National Poetry Writing Month: Day #10 (April 10, 2014)

Today’s prompt is #50 on LitBridge’s Creative Writing Prompts for Poetry:

Look at the last 10 poems you have written. Pay attention to the ending lines. Use one of those ending lines to begin a new poem.

The poem I started with, written April 2nd:

There’s no sun
when I awake

There’s no sun
when the day is done

But in the sun
I am alive

What I did with that last line:

I am alive
I’m frozen in place
and can barely stand
but I am alive

I am alive
I’m tired and anxious
and tempted to turn back
but I am alive

I am alive
I may stumble and fall
and drag my feet
but I am alive

I am alive
all trembling speech
and my voice but a whisper
but I am alive

I am alive
I’ve given myself away
and given up too easily
but I am alive

I am alive
I can’t always see my way
out of the darkness
but I am alive

I am alive
I may have to travel
this path on my own
but I am alive

I am alive
I may never get there
wherever I’m going
but I am alive

I am alive
You may not know me
you may not even care
but I am alive
