There’s always another Kevin (A poem)

Back to exploring the pantoum…

It seems the name Kevin has fallen into disrepute
thanks to serial-killer movies and general overexposure
In 1990, Kevins were everywhere—that’s not in dispute
but now, that seems to be over

Thanks to serial-killer movies and general overexposure
Kevin has lost whatever cachet it once had
The age of Kevin seems to be over
punch lines and has-beens and good boys turned bad

Kevin has lost whatever cachet it once had
“You know Kevin…” became the reputation
Punch lines and has-beens and good boys turned bad
all these slams without explanation

“You know Kevin…” became the reputation
reduced to a commercial for selling Volkswagens
All these slams without explanation
I wonder what they’d say in Copenhagen…

Reduced to a commercial for selling Volkswagens
or mocked on a cloud in a Far Side-like single-frame strip
I wonder what they’d say in Copenhagen
Are Kevins a roadside attraction on a summer day trip?

Mocked on a cloud in a Far Side-like single-frame strip
“For Heaven’s sake, Kevin! You’re already dead!”
Are Kevins a roadside attraction on a summer day trip?
Cautionary tales of incompetence well-bred?

“For Heaven’s sake, Kevin! You’re already dead!”
In 1990, Kevins were everywhere—that’s not in dispute
Cautionary tales of incompetence well-bred
it seems the name Kevin has fallen into disrepute

But there’s always another Kevin somewhere…
