Admonition to my mirror self (A poem)

Back to the epistles, this time in the form of a terzanelle.

When you look in the mirror
you see only failure and success
you see only beauty and horror

What about the rest—
lessons learned and life lived?
You see only failure and success

For all the fucks you say you give
not much seems to have changed
What about lessons learned and life lived?

Your emotions span the range
from the depths to the peaks and everything
not much else seems to have changed

It’s as though you haven’t learned anything
you’re still clinging to the same old path
from the depths to the peaks and everything

barely managing to avoid having to do the math
When you look in the mirror
you’re still clinging to the same old path
seeing only beauty and horror
