Open mic terzanelle #1 (a poem)

Today’s NaPoWriMo.net prompt is to write a terzanelle. After three attempts, I kind of like it, though I have not quite hit upon the right subject for it yet. In any event, this poem is my second attempt at the form.

The late arrival sat in the corner and coughed
The MC was on his third beer of the night
while the singer sang her song in a voice pure and soft

Five minutes later, the late arrival took flight
much to the poet’s relief
The MC was on his third beer of the night

The storyteller offered a zombie motif
it went on too long, but was worth a few laughs
much to the poet’s relief

The folk singer came along somewhere in the second half
the poet grew restless, and started to doodle
It went on too long, but was worth a few laughs

The poet suddenly had an urge for noodles
when the sax player soloed to an old Doors song
The poet grew restless, and started to doodle

As these things go, this one seemed kind of long
when the sax player soloed to an old Doors song
The late arrival sat in the corner and coughed
while the singer sang her song in a voice pure and soft

    1. Thanks! I took notes on and off. Added the noodles thing in later, when I had to think of a rhyme for “doodle”…
