The woman in my dreams (a poem)

Using the prompt from Day 4 of the Writer’s Digest 2015 April PAD Challenge to continue exploring last night’s dream…

Your visage slowly fades
with the memory of my dream

I still glimpse vivid moments
recall snippets of conversation
but the rest has become shadows
vague impressions

I remember wanting to sleep
instead of making the long drive

Now I wonder if we should have just kept going
to stretch out the dream that much longer
I was still going to wake up
but with that much more to remember

Now it is all becoming shadow
vague impressions

Only this lingering feeling
remains to reassure me
that you were here
for that one night we spent together
