A partial list of what I want (a poem)

The December 20th prompt in The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice, by Kelli Russell Agodon & Martha Silano, is to write a poem ‘enumerating your wishes and desires’.

I want the world they promised us when we were young:
gleaming cities, flying cars, houses in the clouds,
peace on earth in a perfect world—
and jet packs for everyone!

I want a molecular transporter like they had in Star Trek,
so I can go anywhere I want—
halfway across the galaxy in the blink of an eye…
Scotty, beam me up!

I want a bright future ahead of me,
a life free from worry, free from pain, free from fear,
where all my dreams can come true,
and I can have a life with you.

I want a life with you,
filled with love, lust, laughter, and tender moments.
Without you, all the flying cars and jet packs in the world
wouldn’t mean a thing…
