As close as I’m going to get to a poem based on the prompt: https://www.napowrimo.net/day-fourteen-10/.
The caged bird is on the lips
of singers everywhere
flittering from place to place
as one cliché or another
drenched in pathos
and metaphor
Frequently a coal mine is involved
The free bird is a prisoner of the encore
in arenas full of weed smoke and butane lighters
at tonight’s show on the Lynyrd Skynyrd reunion tour
It is tired of being part of the argument
as to which song is better—
“Free Bird” or “Stairway to Heaven”
It’s also tired of being unable to change
