One of a few poems I wrote about Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Playing the Piano 2022 streaming concert.
The poet
an elder statesman of sorts
melancholy now
degrees from dour
loose grains
under foot
—
The old man
now and his former self
his voice
quiet, gentle
sometimes now
barely a whisper
—
The calendar
an unwelcome reminder
future approximate
and finite
each malignant cell
another hour
—
The echoless sound
of shoes on soft earth
smoke
clouds
approaching
silence
