National Poetry Writing Month 2022, Day 14

My Day 14 poem, based on the prompt at https://www.napowrimo.net/day-fourteen-9/

The eerie tones of a dark, almost ambient soundscape
a quiet, insistent loop with electronic washes

The camera pans along a fake wood-panelled hallway
framed album covers and posters on the wall

Jules and the Polar Bears – Got No Breeding
Sandii & The Sunzetz – Immigrants
Garland Jeffreys – Rock & Roll Adult
C.C.C.C. – Speculum Fight – Daniel Menche – Solid Eye – InBOIL

intercut with fingers touching small metal posts
until hands are well contorted
or adjusting a knob or two

while purple, red, orange, and white
unfurl beneath green waveforms
on the dark background
of a computer screen

Medium-shot of a solitary figure
slightly hunched over
to reach across a small console
where a green LED
blinks furiously

This is not the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu
and this is not an ice-cream van

but the occupant of this small, cramped back room
is at work
