The second poem of the fourth week of the online retreat.
This is my room now—
my furniture
my art on the walls
my TV in the corner
my rugs on the floor
Some reminders remain—
the old dining room table
the clock on the wall
the lamps by the window
the world’s ugliest shag carpet
the creak of the floor
in the doorway to the bedroom
the occasional stain left
by an old, leaky roof
the bag in the closet
with her ice skates
a peppermint Life Saver
in every hidden nook
a plastic toothpick
behind the sofa
a square of hook rug
where the cat used to nap
the red afghan
that keeps me warm come winter
the desk calendar
opened to August 21
It’s a work in progress
