This is my fifth poem of week three of the online retreat—only a day late.
She is the constellation
upon which I fix my gaze
I cannot call her a goddess—
it’s not fair to impose my awe
upon anyone that way
But I am swept up by the music
and the way she looks heavenward
following the melody she has set free
and the stagelight halo
with its golden glow and steady heat
I’m in love until the house lights come up
rendering those 45 minutes an old letter
I will re-read once in a while
and then lose when it falls under the seat
of the moving van when I finally get
a place of my own
where I’ll spend my nights alone
listening to the melody
floating heavenward
and looking up at the stars
once in a while
