in grainy black-and-white
The drama is mysterious
not quite fitting the song
an arbitrary choice made in a darkened room

A man sings a song about kissing in Japanese
to chords borrowed from dozens of songs
accompanied by grainy stills
from an era gone by
experienced only peripherally
I was there, but in my own darkened room

Descending chords
from a trilogy gone wrong
the seduction failed
but the song lets me pretend
that we still had the moment
our own quiet night in that darkened room
