Baxter Vaughan’s clock (a poem)

This name just popped into my head last night, so I wrote it down…

No break for Baxter Vaughan
there with the cheese grater and a pen
all second thoughts and underlines
a clock with not enough minutes
on the kitchen wall

Coffee cup rings on Baxter Vaughan’s notebook
a spill out to the edge
a wrinkly surface
brittle and click-prone
like the clock on the kitchen wall
