Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is to ‘write a poem that takes the form of a family portrait.’ We never did those in my family, so (as Mad magazine might put it) blecch!
If you were to go
by the evidence
we never existed
Nowhere will you find
all of us together at the same time
A man
in a casual jacket and sunglasses
A boy
with a TV Guide®
Sometimes a woman—
but never her face, or standing off to one side
Nowhere will you find
all of us together at the same time
Only the resemblance
you see in my face
suggests the truth
(2 April 2016)
that must have been tough!
The poem was surprisingly easy, except for not liking the prompt. I am secretly glad that my parents never went in for the “official family portrait” thing; fortunately, my mom has always hated having her picture taken…
Although you claim you didn’t like this prompt, it actually turned out quite nicely.
Oh, I hated the prompt. I just found an angle on it that worked for me.
It worked. It was a tough one for me too.
