Burning
Fullness
The skin, red
stretched to where it’s about to tear

Pressure, unrelenting
fading into the background
but always present

I know better
but haven’t learned

The burning, unrelenting pressure
beneath reddish-purple skin
drones on

Were it not for the sharp, excruciating pain
sure to follow
I would rip the nail from its bed
then try to stem the flow of blood
from the wound
