Wishing (a poem)

The January 25th prompt in The Daily Poet, by Kelli Russell Agodon and Martha Silano, is to use an abstract word as the title of a poem, then write that poem using concrete images. This is what I came up with…

The hint of a smile on her face
invites me to ask for more
Her eyes shining brightly
capture my imagination
(Perhaps ‘capture’ is the wrong word
—I go willingly)
Her hair
shoulder length
framing everything in waves
focuses my gaze
The sound of her laugh
puts me at ease
(and makes me slightly nervous)
In the warmth of her presence
I close my eyes
and picture colors
filling the space within
purple, green, and yellow
in blobs and patterns
I imagine…love
and let that feeling carry me forward
until I can see her again
