National Poetry Writing Month 2022, Day 30

My Day 30 poem, based on the prompt at https://www.napowrimo.net/day-thirty-8/

Imagine the artist
standing beneath a spotlight
before the moon makes it past the trees

A little house, dark blue
mixed with amber and green
teasing out nostalgia like sugar

The old man by the mailboxes
tells me there’s work to be done

I just want to sleep
but have no place to stash the full moon
and I think it might rain

The anxietude of a real god
is the painting on fire in the next room

I am strangely happy
beneath my disguise

Some things never change
