National Poetry Writing Month 2022, Day 24

My Day 24 poem, based on the prompt at https://www.napowrimo.net/day-twenty-four-8/.

He had the face of a navel orange
rotting in the fruit bowl
on the end table
next to the red leather sofa

His forehead had more cracks and wrinkles
than that sofa

The hair on his scalp
had more swirls
than a category 5 hurricane—
a veritable White Tornado

If he were to have spun around
like an ice skater during Olympic finals
he’d appear to be standing still
(but that’s not important right now)

Under his hair (as Prince might say)
he had the brains of a Big Mac
and the vocabulary of a grocery list

Not a very long list—
maybe four or five items at most…
