National Poetry Writing Month 2022, Day 17

My Day 17 poem, based on the prompt at https://www.napowrimo.net/day-seventeen-8/.

Everybody in the neighborhood
knew Buster
the friendly neighbor dog

Buster’s thing was to turn three-quarters
for you to scratch his butt

But you had to be careful
because once you started
he was going to insist you keep going

All the while
his head raised
gurgling with his eyes
