Thanks to a weekend of heavy rains, I found myself unable to get home the other night, as the freeway was blocked by a mudslide, and all the alternate routes were either closed due to flooding or essentially unpassable due to traffic accidents.
Everybody smiles
but everybody dies
The silence in between is hard
Thoughts no longer have to scream to be heard
but haven’t mastered the art
of speaking softly
Wires in the circuitry
don’t know how to let go
of the tension they’ve absorbed
Electrons no longer dance
but bounce off the walls
The lights in the distance
are not moving
Nobody has died
but the smiles are fading
