Every year, I write a tanabata poem for July 7th…
From this side
the chasm feels infinite
The images I conjure
are weak, almost transparent
worn through
Those streaks
are tears in the canvas
for the stars to fall into
They crowd along the edges
waiting
to dive in
I want to make
a last-gasp, desperate attempt
to reach you
But for all I know
years have passed
and you are sleeping
