An annual rumination.
I resisted,
allowing doubt, and frustration
to hold sway.
Soft-spoken expressions
never spoke loudly enough to register.
I wouldn’t see
the complete picture.
(To this day, I see only the frame
and an outline or two.)
Because I don’t like the ocean,
I avoided dipping my feet into high tide.
The moon must have sensed
my displeasure;
despite the rising seas,
the tides have receded.
So now the beach is deserted.
But, somewhere,
the river is calling…
