The trouble with my imagination (a poem)

Up a little late tonight.

But obstacles
always obstacles

I count the costs
in money not spent
things not done

Freedom does not allow such frivolities
on its watch

You’ve got to catch it
when it’s not looking
and sneak past, all ninja-like

I do love the sound of falling rain
but look over my shoulder
for rot between the seams

Rust meets the pristine surface
to create its own work of art

It’s never appreciated
in its own time
