21 August 2020 (a poem)

Another one left this day.

The stifling heat versus the mid-summer cloudburst / no way to avoid a soaking / no way / no escape // Gone before the first drop hits the ground // Where there’s fire there’s smoke / where there’s smoke / you know someone else is leaving // And the rain come down //

The stifling heat fuels the mid-summer cloudburst / they can hold no more / can’t keep the deluge in // Rain hits the metal roof / sounds like it’s all crashing to the ground // And the rain come down //

The stifling heat / the mid-summer cloudburst // The earth opens up again / to welcome you in // The sound of footsteps / and deep sighs // And the rain come down //
