The napowrimo.net prompt for day 6 is to write an ekphrastic poem based on Hieronymous Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights. I went with the wolf-like creature playing the drum…
Beat on the drum
Beat on the drum
Beat on the drum
The Executioner is everywhere
his presence both unseen
and manifest in creatures known and invented
The work must never stop
no rest for the wicked, and all that
As the armies toil
and the torturers play
I am without rest
beating on the drum
beating on the drum
beating on the drum
Time is not art
but keeping time
is everything
