Carrying on (a poem)

‘Keep calm and carry on’—
you know that’s impossible, right?

Every expert on
every outlet in
every news market
says the same thing:

‘There’s no need to panic, for now.’

Every official at
every level of government in
every jurisdiction
says the same thing:

‘The risk to the average person is low,
but it will spread.’

What’s left but to carry on?

‘Keep calm and carry on’—
well, of course!

We have to work—
we have bills to pay

We have to buy groceries—
we have to eat

We have to do what needs to be done—
somebody has to do it

What’s left but to carry on?

‘Keep calm and carry on’—
but leave your baggage behind
