NYE (a poem)

Fell asleep watching a video last night…

So many words I can think of to describe the storm
and none do either of us justice

Each gust, each thrust against the windows
shakes the house

I shift in my seat

The rest of the world is celebrating
the change of the odometer
watching sparks light up the night sky
and the ball drop from the top of Heaven

In my room, tucked in under warm blankets
I close my eyes to wait for the future
