Contemplating the consequences (a poem)

Oh, the things that go through one’s mind while waiting for a package…

Which will make itself known first—
the liar or the flower?

Which one am I hoping for?

The flower is beautiful
but withers and dies
taking memories with it

The liar is toxic
but more likely to stick around
(not many stick around)

Both are an expensive lesson
in the nature of permanence
