Ignore the beat at your peril (or something like that) (a poem)

The title is a phrase I came up with about 25 (maybe 26) years ago…

By any means necessary
you must feel what it means
to feel

You must align yourself
with the tempo
that presents

You must map the rhythm
with every part of your being

You must feel it
within you
around you
passing through you

By any means necessary
you must feel what it means
to live

Without the rhythm
without the pulse
without the beat

blood does not flow
stillness is fatal
