It’s all really happening (a poem)

In a bit of a mood today…

That’s the problem

I was going to get ice cream
but I forgot

I could go back, I suppose
but the parking lot is murder
this time of the afternoon

Imagine things are happening

They are—to someone
though maybe not to me

I know that’s going to happen—
I’ve seen it now

I still can’t comprehend

I try to imagine nothing

I almost succeed

I’ve looked at you
and imagined what you’ll look like
when you’re old

Sometimes that’s how you know
