What happens between crescent moons (a poem)

When my TV viewing habits (a David Bowie documentary) meet memories…

Oh, my Song of Norway—
the one who ‘got away’

I remember…

Oh, my paper doll—
how long has it been now
since I saw you yesterday?

I confirmed trouble
when 20 years came along
to remind me:

If you don’t say what you mean
they’ll take it that way

I was discouraged
on the first day

You troubled me

My pain was not for you
but I focused it your way
I wanted to close the distance
by finding the right thing to say

But how could my promises
hold any weight
if I hadn’t made it
out of yesterday?

Oh, what happens
between crescent moons!
