Politics, Pts. 1 & 2 (a poem)

Listening, but otherwise staying out of it…

She’s kind of badass at 87 (or is it 88?)
with hard edges
like Julianne Moore in The Big Lebowski
or Kusama Yayoi (but without the wig)

I’m not surprised
by the sudden stubbornness
however politely put—

it runs in the family

It’s not my place to play peacemaker
so I’m not going to

Instead, I will be deep under cover—
no one will know what was said here
but we will remember

Some grudges keep themselves

He doesn’t know where it started
she doesn’t know where it started
those two think it started with the other

Witnesses to the ongoing
know nothing at all

But the grudge lives on
