Under lights dimmed (a poem)

Writing a poem in dim light…

Under lights dimmed
I write between lines hard to see
hoping the feelings behind the words
are enough to overcome
the stumbles on the page

Under lights dimmed
I nurse the drink
sitting alone on a corner of the table
pretending it is intoxicating enough
to knock me out by bedtime

Under lights dimmed
I turn off the box
to enjoy the new darkness
and listen to the silence
and all it has to tell me

Under lights dimmed
it’s me and my raging thoughts
left to battle each other
without fear of consequences
and fade awkwardly into sleep

  1. Oh, I loved this poem! You set the scene beautifully – I could see you sitting there,”under lights dimmed.” Masterful!
