The last night of the year (a poem)

My last poem of 2016…

A room
empty but for the couple in the back corner
whispering over the candle in the center of the table

Fireworks
explode the sky two time zones away
if the photographs are to be believed

The couple
put on their coats
as they head for the door

They turn off the lights
then turn the key in the lock
and walk away

Fireworks
word is they’re coming this way
on their westward path to tomorrow

A room
empty but for the smoking candle
in the center of the table in the back corner

  1. Your poem makes me think of “being lonely in a crowded room”
I wish you a Happy New Year, all the bestest of the bestest in it, and I am looking forward to reading more of your poems in 2017!
