Working on the new book, day 2

The second day of picking possible images for the poems in the new book seemed to much slower—I got part of the way through the Oddities section before calling it a day after less than twenty poems and three hours. I think it was a combination of spending nearly five hours on the job yesterday and coming across more poems that don’t immediately bring to mind a particular image. I ended up having to skip a few to return to later.

Then there’s the little matter of the strangeness of looking at photos from the last five or six years from such a different vantage point. I have deleted some of the more unpleasant ones along the way, but a few of the others I have decided to keep for now, in hopes they might be of use.

The cold I’ve had for the last ten days has not helped. The worst of it is over, but a couple of the symptoms (most notably the congestion that is interfering with the hearing in my left ear) are still hanging around. It’s not horrible, but is still enough to put a drag on my enthusiasm, especially since I’ve been getting kind of stir crazy. Today I couldn’t get myself to settle down to the task at hand until after making a trip to Goodwill. I didn’t find the PJs I wanted to get (I desperately need a new pair of bottoms), but I did get a CD copy of the One from the Heart soundtrack for a buck-fifty. Listening to it when I got home helped ease me back into going through my photo library.

Tomorrow is the writing group I go to a couple of times a month, so I’ll pick things up again on Monday.
