Presidential politics, 2016 (A poem)

Just another day in the presidential election cycle…

The sense of entitlement is astounding
It’s on all sides, everywhere
But the arguments are increasingly floundering
To disagree does not mean to not care

It’s on all sides, everywhere
the politics of misinformation
To disagree does not mean to not care
so you’ll forgive me my hesitation

The politics of misinformation
suggest that a vote for is a vote against
So you’ll forgive me my hesitation
to support only your party’s defense

To suggest that a vote for is a vote against
is no way to run a democracy
To support only your party’s defense
is a vote for pure hypocrisy

That’s no way to run a democracy
In fact, that’s how we got into this mess
Voting for pure hypocrisy
is an act of recklessness

In fact, that’s how we got into this mess
by picking the lesser of two evils—
always an act of recklessness
still making deals with devils

Picking the lesser of two evils
ensures we will keep floundering
Still making deals with devils?
The sense of entitlement is astounding
