NaPoWriMo 2015, Day 28: The edible school yard (a poem)

Today’s poem comes from a prompt in The Daily Poet, by Kelli Russell Agodon and Martha Silano: write a poem called The Edible School Yard.

People complain about school pizza and burgers
but those were always my favorite lunch days
Admittedly, to call it ‘pizza’ was generous
the burgers could have been made of just about anything
I liked both of them anyway

A few years ago, I found some hamburgers
in a hospital vending machine
They had that same flavor I remembered from school
I must have eaten two or three a day
Some days, there’s nothing like lowbrow cuisine…
