NaPoWriMo 2015, Day 2: Secrets (a poem)

For today’s prompt, I went with the Writer’s Digest 2015 April PAD Challenge: ‘write a secret poem.’

They do not exist
we create them
out of things we’re afraid to learn
or simply don’t want others to know

They are a form of denial
that we know who to trust
that we know what we are doing
that we can control the universe

Some are obvious
negating themselves
through the fact of their existence
conspicuous in their absence

They are a paradox
knowledge of something
we want to keep unknown
by which time it’s already too late
