Blood moon of October (a poem)

The October 1st prompt in The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice, by Kelli Russell Agodon & Martha Silano, involves writing a poem about the moon that contains lots of ‘O words’. Apparently, there’s going to be an eclipse on the 8th, so…

Oh, blood moon of October
they say you will be an omen
of great changes
obliterating the obsolete
opening doors and hearts
as you orbit the night-time sky

Orange glowing orb of October
autumnal offering outside my control
no other object would captivate us so
objections be damned
our attempts to capture you
will slip out our outstretched arms

N.B., I changed full to blood after reading that the upcoming full moon will be a ‘blood moon’. As it turns out, this fits better with the prompt anyway…
