When I uploaded the e-book version of Separation Anxiety to Smashwords, the only version that I could be sure would look the way it was supposed to was the Kindle version. Both the iBooks reader and Adobe Digital Editions rendered the ePub file quite differently—and neither looked very good, quite frankly. Since the ePub file passed the validation process, however, there wasn’t much I could do; I simply had to trust that it would work the way it was supposed to.
Today, I checked the various sites to which Smashwords distributes e-books. I found it on iBooks (iTunes), Barnes & Noble, Oyster, Kobo, and Blio. Fortunately, Barnes & Noble includes a free preview, so I was able to take a look.
To my relief, what I saw looked just fine. Headings and titles looked like headings and titles, the poems themselves were formatted properly, and the photo captions looked the way they should.
So, I now feel comfortable referring people who are interested in the book, but don’t want to open a new account at Smashwords just to buy a copy, to any of the other places offering it for sale and/or download:
