Reflections on a Conversation (a poem)

No prompt today. Instead, a combination of a conversation with a friend and the Japanese drama (Long Vacation) I’ve been watching the last couple of days..

Everything is a reflection
of the thoughts inside my head
Everything you say to me
is something I could have said

Today it swims around in my head
like a goldfish trapped in a bowl
But I know that knowing isn’t any easier
knowing it’s all out of my control

If you believe that miracles exist
there’s a path from here to there
Regret is a useless endeavour
when you have plenty of time to spare

That’s why we talk about what we talk about
even though it won’t change a single thing
There’s something in the moment of confession
that leaves the hurt but dulls its sting

So today I hope for a miracle
before the note from the keystroke dies
because the moment sound fades to silence
is the moment doubt begins to rise
