National Poetry Writing Month: Day #1 (April 1, 2014)

Today’s prompt: go to Reb Livingston’s Bibliomancy Oracle. Clear your mind, push the button, and then write a poem based on the quotation that the oracle provides.

The quotation I got was a passage from Becca Klaver’s ‘Pavarotti Lip-Synched Last Performance’:

You might postpone five June dates
or cancel eight shows in April but
     I
     will
     not
     let
     you
     sleep

And here’s what I came up with:

She cancelled more often
than Pavarotti
‘Next time—I promise.’

The day would come
and I’d be ready
‘Next time—I promise.’

One time, she actually showed
but forgot the key
‘Next time—I promise.’

That was the day it ended
I haven’t seen her since
‘Next time—I promise.’

What would Pavarotti do?
