Flashback Friday:

Four years ago, I had the chance to interview Sylvie Simmons about her then-new book, I’m Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen, for The Nervous Breakdown. We did the interview just two days after my then wife and I decided to split, so I was actually feeling on the verge of a nervous breakdown—but I managed to keep it together long enough to ask coherent questions, and then transcribe and edit before passing on the article to my editor for final touches and publication. (Note: ‘sea drops’ at the end is a transcription error—but I never did figure out exactly what the correct word was, and Ms. Simmons didn’t correct me when she wrote back to me after I sent her the edited interview to check for any inaccurate quotes.)

“Overqualified”

About a week and a half ago, I went to a job interview. The overall atmosphere was pretty relaxed, the folks interviewing me seemed to like my portfolio samples, and they even commented on how the landscape orientation of my resume made it easy to read on their computer screens without having to scroll.
