All for the blue, tiles discarded (a poem)

A late entry. I’m watching a very strange Japanese drama involving a very strange game of mahjongg, and wrote this…

Weighted down by hope
they sink to the bottom of desperation

where every decision is the wrong one
and the distance of the jump is unknown

until the ground comes rushing up
to meet the drowning flesh

It must be a relief
to have it decided for you

whether or not you can answer the question
the symbols etched in the stone will wear away

not unlike the writing you found
on the sand that one morning:

it was left for someone else
but you knew exactly what it meant

And then the bright light burst of red…
