Flat Santas (a poem)

Inspired by the sight of not-yet-inflated lawn Santas in Shoreline, and ‘Hanna Hanna’ and ‘The Soul Awakening’ by China Crisis.

Flat Santas
on the catwalk
empty of the poison
interlude
fleeing from
the sunset season
toward dash-stroke incidents

Flat Santas
’cross the sidewalks
victims of flamingos
in formation
fleeing from
vicious sharks
and lawn-dart infamy

Flat Santas
don’t wait for the thaw
to collapse
into layers
fleeing from
parade-ground mishaps
and helium freedom

Flat Santas
asleep, not dying
wanting to believe
in everything
they know
the real one believes
in everyone
