Never take a stranger’s advice about the moon (a poem)

Inspired by a song from the new Ruby Throat album

The moon’s light is blinding
is the line I overheard
it wouldn’t be the first time
I got it wrong

The melody lingers
and cycles on and on
and on and on
and on

And here
swimming in the shallow waters
rocks scraping against my knees
I trust the voice I’m hearing is hers

Yes, the moon’s light is blinding
that’s why I avert my eyes
it wouldn’t be the first time
I got it wrong
