Working on the new book, day 5

Looking through old photos is a strange process, a weird mix of surprise and nostalgia. The photos I have accumulated on my computer cover a difficult part of my life; even after deleting a number of photos, I still manage to come across an image here or there that I overlooked, or that reminds me of something I’d prefer to forget. At the same time, I’m also reminded of my willingness to experiment with the medium—my Views from a Parked Car series comes to mind—and that I’d like to publish a photo book some day.

Anyway…

Yesterday I made the mistake of starting off the day with the brownie and bottled Frappuccino® I had saved from the day before. A short while later, I had my usual morning cup of regular coffee. It wasn’t long before I realized I had overdone the caffeine-sugar combination.

To make a long story short, I got almost nothing done. Rest was the order of the day.

Today, I’m glad to say, I made much better progress, making it through most of the Do-overs section. Actually, I’m thinking of dropping that section altogether; I’ve already taken out a couple of the poems because they don’t stand up in their altered forms—and I’m starting to think that a separate section for them is not really necessary. I can include the ones I keep in one of the other parts of the book instead.

Besides, I’m ready to move on to my iPhoto libraries. A few of those older photos have already come to mind for some poems, so I’m anxious to locate them. More importantly, there are approximately 20,000 images in those older libraries—the roughly 5,000 (after deletions) that are in my Lightroom library as RAW files, plus another 15,000 and change.

So iPhoto, here I come!
