The Age of Unreason (a poem)

I really should read less of the news…

The smallest things
get blown up huge

The biggest things
are merely rude

Distortions and hurt feelings
rule the news

What is freedom
if we don’t know how to choose?

Ignorance is the new order of the day
the more intentional
the more it wants its way

Backstabbing and subterfuge
are practiced for pay
while the warped lies of history
come back into play

The race is going not to the swift
but to the rich

The assemblage of lies and hate
makes for the most popular pitch

The loud and obnoxious
head up all the polls

What profits a nation
that’s losing its soul?
