The September 24th prompt in The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice, by Kelli Russell Agodon & Martha Silano, involves writing a poem about the sky that has nothing to do with the weather. I couldn’t avoid that entirely, but…
My thoughts are as blank
as the overcast sky
onto which I project my memories
of a long time ago
Formless and undefined
as the blanket of clouds
under which I find myself hiding
from a long time ago
But the sky takes me back
to a drizzly Sunday
walking along to the music
a long time ago
(I wish I had more than just the one picture
I haven’t forgotten; I just want to see you)
Now feels a lot like then
disappointment and promise
perhaps a chance to escape
from a long time ago
(24 September 2014)
