A poem that’s not quite abut two different subjects

The May 28th prompt in The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice, by Kelli Russell Agodon & Martha Silano, involves writing a poem that includes two different subjects “and creates a bridge between them.” I chose the moon and typewriters, then managed to write a poem that isn’t specifically about either…

An unexpected reminder
from unexpected quarters
Now I sit here, dreaming about the moon

Hazy images, indistinct shapes
dance across the skies
of a thousand and two nights layered in my mind

Suddenly, I notice the sun is shining
I don’t remember hearing the morning alarm
or the cat stirring slowly at the foot of the bed

Then, my fingers moving across the keys
a quiet, plastic rumbling in fits and starts
I miss the ink of the ribbons that once stained my fingers
